Sam Bell, (Sam Rockwell), is a technician, carrying through a three-year contract, maintaining a green fuel strip-mining station on the far side of the moon. His only "companion" is a robotic computer called Gerty. A satellite is broken, so Sam cannot send or receive live communication. He finds comfort for his solitude in recorded video messages from his wife, Tess (Dominique McElligott), and in the knowledge that his assignment is coming to a close. As he goes outside on one of his regular errands, an accident happens, that will eventually expose what lays in store for him.

In these days of big budget sci-fi movies production, "Moon" is an oddity. Director Duncan Jones (Son of David Bowie) on a $5 million shoestring, pulls off nothing short of a miracle! The minimalist production design contributes to the film credibility. The screenplay relies on ideas rather than on computer artifices. Its affinities are more with "Solaris", "Space Odyssey" or "Silent Running" rather than traditional sci-fi flicks with warmongering aliens and monsters from out of space. The story is perhaps more intriguing and thought-provoking than gripping and Nathan Parker's script is not without its flaws. Nevertheless it is undeniably boosted by Sam Rockwell's visceral performance. A totally endearing effort
from first time director Duncan Jones. I loved it!
