I feared the worst, when I heard that Tony Scott, was attempting a remake of the 1974 Joseph Sargent,s cult classic.
I'd have to say, that my fears were not completely unfounded, to say the least. To their credit, the producers, scenarist and director, took the brave decision not to make a scene by scene remake. A brave and stupid choice, when the poor buggers got rid of the best qualities of the original. O-K, you could understand their dilemma in regard to the use of the
aliases : Blue, Green, Grey, Brown. Imagine the irony of Scott being accused of stealing from Tarantino!!! Ah!, Ah!
But for heaven sake, everything that was good about the original is gone! The characters are dull or over the top, (John Travolta, for instance). The action scenes are preposterous. There's a total lack of atmosphere. And so on.....
Even for those that have missed the original, it's average at best. For the others, it's just plain ridiculous!
