Except from the obvious technical merits of this film : the discerning camera work, Gray's uncanny attention for sounds and his subtle directing, I was utterly impressed by the script. Gray and Rick Menello have come up with something rare these days. A story that does so well to avoid the cliches and the caricatures. an uncompromising drama enhanced by perceptive performances all around.

As for the relationship between Phoenix and Paltrow, I Found it is credible. What perhaps makes their pairing seem Unlikely, Is the somewhat staged and artificial manner in which they meet. But they're both from the same background, (As well observed by Rémi!), and also, are both vulnerable. Only it may be wrong to call it a friendship. As if Paltrow looks for a confidant into Phoenix, himself is infatuated at once.

"Two Lovers" is all in all a very rewarding viewing to its cheerless and yet most plausible ending
