The characters are so severely underwritten that I failed to sympathize for any of them, or their fate. What does that movie tells you? That gambling is bad, that you carry the risk of being addicted, well Duh! It's after school moralizing! There's no heart, no personality. Some of the actors try their best, Tim Roth is on auto-pilot, and Whitaker is like a player that runs around the pitch trying to win a doomed game. A sorely academic direction to a doddering screenplay, till its rushed and flimsy finale.
